David Scott Carlick, Venture Partner

David Scott Carlick is a venture partner at Rho Ventures. He believes that successful investing hinges on market opportunities and entrepreneurial teams. Ultimately, collaborative efforts that are cohesive, clever and adaptive yield success in big, new and emerging markets.

He joined Rho in 2009 and focuses on investments in digital media and marketing. Prior to Rho, he was managing director and venture partner of VantagePoint Venture Partners, where he was involved in numerous investments, including Intermix Media (parent company of MySpace that was sold to NewsCorp in 2005) and ReachLocal. He was also executive vice president at Poppe Tyson, where he co-founded, which spun out and merged with Modem Media (NASDAQ: MMPT), and DoubleClick, which went public and was subsequently sold to Google.

His business experience also includes founding Carlick Advertising (acquired by Poppe Tyson in 1993) after nearly 15 years serving technology startups such as Cypress Semiconductor, Network Equipment Technologies, Network General and Silicon Graphics – among eight clients that went public during the engagements. He was also founding director of I/Pro (sold to CMGI) and International Network Services (NASDAQ: INTC; sold to Lucent in 1999) and director at AskJeeves from 2001 through its acquisition by IAC in 2005.

Currently, he is a director for Effective Measure, Grocery Shopping Network, Mediasmith, ReachLocal and TouchTunes. He holds a B.S. in business accounting from San Jose State University.
