Indianapolis,Aug. 8, 2011
ChaCha, the #1 free real-time question and answer service, generates
significant traffic through the mobile Web and mobile Apps as well as
its SMS text messaging based service. ChaCha.com
received over 260 million page views in the first half of 2011 with 21%
of this traffic coming from mobile devices according to Omniture. The
average Internet traffic currently coming from mobile devices is 7%, as
measured by Global StatCounter, which means ChaCha is outpacing the
market at triple the norm.
Smartphones account for the vast majority of ChaCha.com's
significant mobile Web traffic with Apple's iPhone making up the
largest share at 36%, barely edging out Android's 35% share. However,
iPod Touch and iPad users land in the third and fourth spots making the
iOS operating system account for a dominant 60% of the impressive amount
of mobile pageviews ChaCha.com achieved during the first half of 2011:
- iPhone: 36%
- Android: 35%
- iPod: 14%
- iPad: 10%
- BlackBerry: 4%
- Windows: .2%
Not only are users of smart devices accessing ChaCha.com
at a dramatically high rate; smart devices also make up the bulk of
ChaCha's SMS text service. According to comScore's MobiLens, 51% of
ChaCha SMS text users are accessing the service via smartphones. With
33% of Americans currently owning a smartphone, a ChaCha text user is
55% more likely to be texting from a smartphone when compared to the
mobile sphere as a whole.
"These results validate the value of quick, concise and
definitive answers, especially when it comes to mobile users on the go,"
says ChaCha CEO Scott Jones. "This also speaks to the fact that
smartphone users continue to embrace text messaging as one of their most
important 'applications.' Smartphone users text more, not less, on
these advanced devices. ChaCha has been tremendously successful in
building a massive audience of loyal mobile users across the mobile Web
as well as via our mobile text and mobile App services. Our success
within the exploding mobile market is increasing even more rapidly as
smartphone adoption ramps up."
Mobile users tend to multitask while engaging with ChaCha's
service. According to a June 2011 user survey, 37% of ChaCha mobile
users are on the go when asking questions to ChaCha; 28% are out with
